Clinical and Community Services

At the USC UCEDD at CHLA, we are tasked by the Developmental Disabilities Act to provide community services, supports, and assistance for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families through demonstration and model activities.

We do this through the work of our Division of General Pediatrics at CHLA, which includes individuals from multiple disciplines (pediatrics, psychology, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, nutrition, speech and audiology, public health, etc.) who work to provide care to underserved individuals and their families throughout the lifespan. Caring for individuals with developmental disabilities is infused in all that we do.

Primary Care for Individuals with Special Needs (including complex medical conditions and/or developmental disabilities) is provided by CHLA Pediatricians in partnership with AltaMed in our General Pediatrics clinic: 323-669-2113

Special programs provided for all, including individuals with developmental disabilities, include:

  • The Patient Centered Medical Home Program which embeds nurse case management in the primary care setting

  • Bodyworks which provides dietary and physical activity counseling and weight management

  • The Lactation Clinic which provides breastfeeding support to all, including mothers and infants with developmental disabilities

  • The Parent Navigator Program, which employs individuals with lived experience to help families navigate and get connected to the DD service system

  • Hablamos Juntos, which provides family-based support for children with speech delay

  • Spina Bifida Program

  • Transition Program

  • Newborn Clinic (Maternal Fetal Medicine)

  • Colorectal Clinic
