The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (Became Law on June 25, 2022)

The bipartisan Senate Mental Health Caucus provides a platform for Senators and their staff to collaborate on and advocate for mental health solutions. It organizes events to raise awareness about crucial mental health issues and works towards reducing stigma. The Caucus has a mission to enhance prevention and early intervention efforts, expand the mental health professional workforce, improve crisis response services, and increase access to evidence-based mental health treatment and practical solutions for all Americans. The Caucus supports its members by keeping them informed on current issues, showcasing innovative breakthroughs in the behavioral health field, and promoting the work of colleagues to elevate mental health concerns and implement policies for the betterment of mental health in the United States. While significant progress has been achieved, such as the launch of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, permanent expansion of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) program, and investments in the mental health workforce, challenges persist. In 2021, over one-third of those with serious mental illness did not receive any mental health care. The Caucus remains dedicated to bipartisan solutions, recognizing the effectiveness of mental health treatment and the importance of targeted policy solutions for vulnerable populations. The goal is to collaboratively and comprehensively address the nation's mental health crisis, ensuring that the next generation has the tools for a happy and healthy life. Together, the Caucus aims to improve the quality of life for the American people.
