This bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on September 29, 2023. This legislation would instruct the Secretary of Transportation to create a program that offers grants to support efforts to advocate for transportation access for individuals with disabilities, among other objectives.
The Secretary has the authority to end a grant awarded under this section before its scheduled conclusion if there is justifiable cause, such as misuse of grant funds or the recipient being redesignated according to section 143(a)(4) of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000.
Each fiscal year, when a protection and advocacy system advocates for individuals with disabilities to access transportation using a grant from this section, the Secretary will award a grant to an eligible organization. This grant is intended to provide training and technical assistance to the protection and advocacy system.
